Tengo debian lenny 5 en mi dell inspiron6400. Practicamente desde que instale ( por febrero de este año) he tenido el problema de que mi servidor X se cae. Esto no ocurre tan seguido, algo asi como una vez a la semana, pero ocurre siempre.
Revisando el log de servidor me da Error in I830WaitLpRing(), y tambien unos warning relativos a la tarjeta de video y cosas como Existing errors found in hardware state. La verdad es que no se que puedo hacer para resolver este problema o para entender cual es el origen de este

¿Tines varios sistemas operativos en esa máquina? lo digo por el tema de "error hardware" para descartar si es soft o hard

Mira yo tuve mucho problemas con lo mismo. Tengo Gnu/Debian Lenny en una PC Celeron. De lo primero que hice fue revisar en el Setup de la PC cuanta memoria estaba al video. Empieza quizás por esto.
Oka, gracias, voy a revisar. Pero una pregunta, lograste resolverlo?
Después de muuucho tiempo y buscar y buscar..... sí. Pero es mejor ir de lo siemple a lo complicado. Y también es importante saber más detalles de tu equipo como que tarjeta tienes.

Lo imaginé. Al parecer estas tarjetas de Intel tienen problemas con Lenny. Yo tengo una 845GL. Quizás pueda darte algunos pasos que seguí.
Ya revisaste la memoria asignada a video en setup?

Yo tengo 8 megas también, algunos dicen que es poco pero a mi me funciona.
Lo siguiente es revisar tu xorg.conf porque el que viene por defecto en Lenny no funciona con estas tarjetas.
Debes averiguar también los detalles de tu monitor, como que resolución es la que soporta y la tasa de refresco. Esto es para no dejarle nada al azar a la configuración de la "screen". Puedes usar esto para comparar con lo que encuentres sobre el monitor:
ddcprobe | grepPara empezar si puedes postea tu xorg.conf
Me acabo de llevar una sorpresa al revisar mi xorg.conf y ver que esta completamente VACIO¡¡
